We Are One With Obama in the White House

OK, I am back in Stockholm and ready to share my Inauguration experience with you.

we-are-one

I was fortunate enough to get tickets for the We Are One concert at the Lincoln Memorial on 18 January 2008. Half a million people like me turned out for the concert to watch celebrities from all walks of life give props to Barack Obama. I didn’t take this video, but I believe it is a good summary of the event.

Fire Rainbow Obama

“Fire Rainbow Obama”

I wanted to give you a sneak preview of my tribute to and celebration of Barack Obama.

“Fire Rainbow Obama” celebrates him as a special gift to all the people of the world. A president that gives us all hope.

Therefore I chose a fire rainbow to symbolize him. A fire rainbow is a phenomenon rarely seen or experienced. The rainbow also is biblical promise of hope for good and some of us will also think of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. In an astrological sense Obama is also a fire sign, a Leo.

The people looking up at the rainbow (Obama’s spirit) are from all walks of life and from all around the world. Never before have I seen the world embrace a United States President with such joyful hope and pride.

I will sign the completed painting “Fire Rainbow Obama” next week, and I will be releasing it as a Limited Edition Giclee on Canvas in 2 sizes. If you’re interested in details please email me or give me a call – 323.993.5722.

Have a wonderFULL day!

The Real Value of Inspiration – My Journey With Barack Obama

A new website has been created dedicated to America’s President-Elect, Barack Obama, with a big difference. It follows Obama’s fortunes and frailties in his election campaign through the eyes of a British writer, Elaine Sihera (Ms Cyprah), from a uniquely Black British perspective. Well known in minority communities in the UK, and the most quoted British woman on the Internet, Elaine had a personal crisis which coincided with the duration of Obama’s campaign and has led to this amazing website (www.barackobama-andme.com) which carries the title:

My Journey with Barack Obama.

The unique informative website begins the narrative from the time the Senator launched his campaign in Illinois, through to the primaries and his nomination and election. A pioneering achiever in her own right who shares Obama’s motivational ideals, and a champion for ‘ageing disgracefully’, Elaine was so empowered by the campaign, she even went to the Illinois Obama HQ in Chicago during election week to help on the phones getting the vote out and was also in Grant Park as a guest on election night shouting ‘Yes We Can!’ with everyone else. An experience she describes as ‘more than magical’.

The striking, colourful website, which is packed with eye catching photographs, inspirational quotes, presidential quotes, widgets for up-to-date news, useful links, Barack’s books, fun games and the articles themselves, each one matching the progress of the campaign, opens with the following introduction
:

“This is a personal tribute to Barack Obama, President-Elect of the United States of America, consisting of all the articles I have written on him since he launched his campaign in 2007. Being rather ill throughout his campaign, I journeyed with him from my computer. I am a Type 2 diabetic whose body suddenly decided in March 2007 to reject all my medication. Having such an inspiring and motivating person to focus upon helped my tenacity and resilience in dealing with my personal crisis. perhaps far more than I can ever realise. I was told I was unique in Britain for such a condition, but just, for once, I wanted to be like everyone else!

My Journey with Barack Obama is a very absorbing and unusual site which Elaine hopes will be ‘a living archive’ with continuous articles throughout Obama’s presidency. She noted that because she did not have to write to deadlines, or for anyone in particular, she was able to be more honest, forthright and partisan in her comments. She also writes for the ‘ordinary voter’ to understand and appreciate the issues, in a simple, personal and engaging style.Elaine is hoping to make it to the Inauguration in Washington DC in order to comment on that too. “That would be the icing on the cake,” she said excitedly, “though I don’t know how I’ll be doing it y
From the first section ‘A New Candidate’ (Feb-Dec. 2008):
*Does the Audacity of Barack Obama Carry Lessons for Britain?

“I remained very poorly and weak for the rest of 2007 while doctors carefully tried other medicines and injections, none of which worked. I recovered slightly for three months at the start of the new year, then worsened again between April and July 2008. Since then, there has been some steady improvement, fingers crossed. The difference in output for the two years was stark: only 14 articles written on Barack in 2007 compared to over 100 in 2008! I think I am still here to create this website because of Obama’s catchy campaign slogan, YES WE CAN!

“June of 2007, in particular, when the surgery nurse offered to call an ambulance because she feared I was heading into a coma, despite the fact that I was on tons of insulin, the words YES I CAN! kept ringing inside me. When I was too weak and lethargic to do anything, YES I CAN! propelled itself in front of me and when I felt exceedingly low, unwanted and missed my children terribly, YES I CAN! danced challengingly in front of my gaze. I could not fail to see the irony of our situation. He was there chasing a seemingly impossible dream and I was simply chasing my life, trying to stop it from leaving me……

Easy to navigate, pleasing to the eye and packed with fascinating observations, insights and steadfast predictions,

Open Letter to Barack Obama from Alice Walker
Nov. 5, 2008

Dear Brother Obama,

You have no idea, really, of how profound this moment is for us. Us being the black people of the Southern United States. You think you know, because you are thoughtful, and you have studied our history. But seeing you deliver the torch so many others before you carried, year after year, decade after decade, century after century, only to be struck down before igniting the flame of justice and of law, is almost more than the heart can bear. And yet, this observation is not intended to burden you, for you are of a different time, and, indeed, because of all the relay runners before you, North America is a different place. It is really only to say: Well done. We knew, through all the generations, that you were with us, in us, the best of the spirit of Africa and of the Americas. Knowing this, that you would
actually appear, someday, was part of our strength. Seeing you take your rightful place, based solely on your wisdom, stamina and character, is a balm for the weary warriors of hope, previously only sung about.

I would advise you to remember that you did not create the disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule that permits
sufficient time of rest and play with your gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. And so on. One gathers that your family is large. We are used to seeing men in the White House soon become juiceless and as white-haired as the building; we notice their wives and children looking strained and stressed. They soon have smiles so lacking in joy that they remind us of scissors. This is no way to lead. Nor does your family deserve this fate.

One way of thinking about all this is: It is so bad now that there is no excuse not to relax. From your happy, relaxed state, you can model real success, which is all that so many people in the world really want. They may buy endless cars and houses and furs and gobble up all the attention and space they can manage, or barely manage, but this is because it is not yet clear to them that success is truly an inside job. That it is within the reach of almost everyone.

I would further advise you not to take on other people’s enemies. Most damage that others do to us is out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain religious or racial devotion. We must learn actually not to have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely.
However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with which I often fought, “hate the sin, but love the sinner.” There must be no more crushing of whole communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a means of ruling a people’s spirit. This has already happened to people of color, poor
people, women, children. We see where this leads, where it has led.

A good model of how to “work with the enemy” internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. And your smile, with which we watch you do gracious battle with unjust
characterizations, distortions and lies, is that expression of healthy self-worth, spirit and soul, that, kept happy and free and relaxed, can find an answering smile in all of us, lighting our way, and brightening the world.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

In Peace and Joy,
Alice Walker
