This is an extra special one as I am extremely delighted to invite you to my first ever solo show presented by TAFETA. ‘Nude Me / Under the Skin: A Transcendence’, continues to explore black women’s femininity as it intersects with the history of the hosiery garment.
However this exhibition extends further into the healing work incited in my performances whilst becoming ever connected to my personal journeys of growth in this past year. Going within, to self and the infinite space as a pathway to unravelling the mechanisms of generational trauma, rediscovering ancestral connections to the mothers, and opening portals to source.
Evoked through a variety of textural and sculptural works, these are pathways arrived at through performative acts of making that took place over the last few months. Through knitting, stitching, painting, collating, and embroidery, statements of action are made that restore the black feminine to a transcendent space far beyond the conscious being. While there will not be an opening event, I will be attending in person this week on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th as well as next week on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th August (12-6pm). If you can make it on one of these days, I very much look forward to welcoming you and talking you through the show alongside the TAFETA team.
