Alberta Whittle: Congregation (Creating Dangerously Remix) Film Screening

You’re invited to the premiere of Alberta Whittle’s newly commissioned film Congregation (Creating Dangerously Remix) at Birmingham Cathedral, presented by Birmingham 2022 Festival and Grand Union

Event details:
Monday 1 August, 5–7 pm

Birmingham Cathedral, Cathedral Square, Colmore Row, B3 2QB

Please join Grand Union and Birmingham 2022 Festival to celebrate the premiere of Congregation (Creating Dangerously Remix), a large-scale film by Barbadian-Scottish artist Alberta Whittle.

Alberta’s creative practice is motivated by the desire to manifest self-compassion and collective care as key methods in battling anti-blackness. She choreographs interactive installations, using film, sculpture, and performance as site-specific artworks in public and private spaces.

The film Congregation combines conversations, performances, archival footage, and interviews. This film forms part of Alberta’s long-term body of work, relating to conditions of freedom under the hostile environment and aids in the much-needed healing of our Birmingham community.

Congregation is presented by the Birmingham 2022 Festival and produced by Grand Union. Read more here.

If you like to attend the screening, please reserve a place via Eventbrite – link here.
