The 2011 list names 35 women in 9 categories: Athletics, Business & Entrepreneurship, Law, Lifestyle, Literature, Media, Politics, Science and Social Activism. This list, presented in alphabetical order, is intended to acknowledge powerful black women in Europe and to inspire others to reach their full potential.

What constitutes power?
Power is defined as the ability to act or produce an effect.

Methodology:
Members of the Black Women in Europe™ Social Network and readers of the Black Women in Europe™ Blog were asked to nominate women for inclusion in the Most Powerful Black Women in Europe™ List. The list does not aim to assess rank but rather to showcase influential women (in some cases well known and in others up and coming stars) in 9 categories: Athletics, Business & Entrepreneurship, Law, Lifestyle, Literature, Media, Politics, Science and Social Activism.
