Another Dutch Novel Reinforces Sexual Sterotypes Of Black Women In Holland

Hat tip: Afro Europe International Blog

book-cover

In the Netherlands an author started a row by publishing a book that is sexual stereotyping black women. The book ‘Alleen maar nette mensen’ (Just fine people) is the debut of Dutch author Robert Vuistjes.

Naturally all of the information I’ve seen about this book is in Dutch except for the Afro Europe International Blog post. Read it here for a synopsis of the book, a recent debate about the book, and for the mixed reviews the book is receiving.

  1. I am always amazed at non-blacks who feel they are experts on black people because they have come across a few blacks within their lifespan.
I feel sorry for the black girtl friend.
I just hope this is not a trend, and that we are not going to see the rise of confused and desperate black women with openly racist men who have the gall to disrespect them in public.

  2. I look forward to the day when 100% of us refuse to accept relationships of any kind where we are disrespected in public or privte.

  3. Thanks for the video. I missed it. Somehow I don't think the black girl friend of the writer feels disrespected. I am certain that she gave the writer a lot of the material. There are things he wrote which an average Dutch white person could not have known.

My personal opinion is that she looks down on what you may call the 'lower class' black women. In the book categorised as the Sherida chain. I heard some reactions of more educated black woman, and unfortunately the reaction is also that the writer is right about ‘these’ women.

  4. Thank you for the insight.

    Yes snobs are everywhere.

However I maintain that I look forward to the day when we don't accept disrspect from any source.
