Virtual panel on Multi-generational Voices in Delivering the SDGs in the New Normal

‘Multi-generational Voices in Delivering the SDGs in the New Normal’ is scheduled to unpack the numerous challenges presented to the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). No doubt the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed not only the cumulative impact on governmental policies and plans of actions or its lack thereof on an already fragile population thus exacerbating gender and social inequalities for women in Africa and indeed all over the world.

The panel is also organised to commemorate the International Day of the Youth on 12th August, 2020. This is an awareness day designated by the United Nations to recognize efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society.  The theme for this year “Youth Engagement for Global Action” is very appropriate considering the ongoing situation presented by the pandemic Covid-19. The day is also observed to draw attention to a given set of issues surrounding youth while highlighting ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on the positive contribution of their representation.

The panel will therefore seek to answer questions around the implication of Covid-19 on the delivery of the SDGs and and how we can better prepare in future to avoid impact of humanitarian crises on development of youth, women and girls. I am sure you will agree with me that this is such an important topic most especially at this time.
