Malaika Mihambo is a 2022 champion long jumper. She’s also a concert pianist who discovered the instrument when she was 22.

Germany’s Malaika Mihambo won her third consecutive global gold medal in the women’s long jump at the World Athletics Championships on Sunday night at Hayward Field in Eugene. She leaped 23 feet, 4 1/2 inches (7.12m) on that last jump. She also won the 2019 world championships and at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.
“I knew that I can do it, that I can make a valid third attempt. That is what I did and after that, there was no pressure.”
