From Somalia to Sweden, to an influential dancer, choreographer, and rapper.
She wrote a book about her journey. Here is the synopsis translated from her website.
When Imenella was little, she and her mother were forced to flee the civil war in Somalia. They managed to get to Nairobi, but after a while, her mother left Kenya to move to Sweden. Imenella was left alone, abandoned to strange adults who did not have her best interests in mind. It would be several years before she was reunited with her mother.
Today, Imenella is one of Sweden’s most respected rappers, dancers, and choreographers. But it has been a long road to get there. In “Jag ska vara drottning här” she talks about growing up in Tensta, living with difficult childhood memories, reconciling with her mother, and creating her own life. And then it is about the music and dance, which changed everything.
Now, Imenella is going out and giving talks and lectures about the book, as well as her inspiring life journey.
