On Thursday 1st August, Berns (a famous event venue in Stockholm) celebrated it’s 150 years anniversary, and has been visited by many famous people over the years. One of them is the incredible dancer/actress Joséphine Baker.
However, in the search to find a actress to represent her Annika Frisch, project manager at Berns, said that it was not been possible to find any black actresses.
“There has been a shortage of black extras during the summer, she says. “Yes, we’ve been working on this for about four months and unfortunately we have not succeeded”, says Annika Frisch.
“It has been really Bike or Bus to get hold of ‘coloured extras’. Josephine Baker performed here very many times and she felt like a person we really wanted to represent.”
So they have chosen to use a Caucasian actress in black brown cream make up instead.
