Anna was born in Berlin, Germany in 1986 to a Ugandan (African) father and Moldavian (Russian) mother. Her family, with their roots in Moldova left as refugees to Germany. However, they returned to Russia when Anna was only 3 years old and there she spent her childhood years. Anna began singing at the age of 6, learned to read music and play the clarinet at the age of 8, taught herself how to play the guitar at 14, and studied classical piano at 16. At the age of 19, she decided to create her own entertainment company to maintain control of her destiny.

Not only is she a singer and songwriter, Anna Nyakana is on a mission to inspire others with her heart for human rights. Being an active member of the non-profit organizations Save Darfur Coalition and Genocide Intervention Network , she is spreading light on current events around the world and how we can make a difference.

In 2007 Anna Nyakana self released her self titled debut album. With her 1 hit-single “Just a Day,” she was crowned the winner of the “Starbucks Music Makers Competition” online vote. Her distinctive sound has led to digital distribution with over thirty companies including Apple iTunes, Amazon.com and Napster.


Anna is also the author of The Student Survival Guide to Online College.
