Alice Dearing is the 1st black woman to compete for the Olympic Team GB in swimming since 1896 and Co-founder of the Black Swimming Association. Hearty congratulations on making the 2021 Power List: Black Women in Europe™ Power List: A List of Our Own!
This young woman is so inspirational. She is not only an Olympian herself but she works to help others who look like her get in the pool.
There are many reasons why there are not more black competitive swimmers. Lack of access to a swimming pool, lack of mentorship, fear of the water, and knowledge of how to care for our hair. Alice addresses this too.
I’m with Alice: Let’s get swimming! For more inspiration follow Alice on Instagram and visit her website.
