Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a stage and TV actress in England.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is an English actress, perhaps best known for her semi-regular role as Jenny in the fifth series of Spooks, and lead role as Vivienne Davis in BBC1 new drama Bonekickers.

A Royal Academy of Dramatic Art trained actress, her first television role was playing Colette Hill in Holby City. She played a nurse in Walk Away and I Stumble, and Eve in Vital Signs. She played Fidelity Saunders in Bad Girls in 2006 and appeared as Martha Jones’ sister Tish in the 2007 series of Doctor Who. She appeared in the ITV drama series Marple, in an episode based on the novel Ordeal by Innocence. She also appeared in Lost in Austen as Piranha, the flat mate of the female lead, Amanda, played by Jemima Rooper.

She recently appeared in the television version of Roy Williams’ play Fallout (part of Channel 4’s Disarming Britain series) as Shanice Roberts. Mbatha-Raw has been cast as the female lead in J.J. Abrams’ new spy drama Undercovers, set to debut in late 2010 on NBC.

Mbatha-Raw has appeared on stage in Broadway, London, Birmingham, Exeter and Manchester.

She has appeared twice at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, first in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra opposite Josette Bushell-Mingo and then as Juliet opposite Andrew Garfield in Romeo And Juliet, both in 2005.

In November 2008 she took the part of Monique in Gethsemane at the National Theatre, and later on tour. In June 2009 she played a “touchingly bewildered” Ophelia opposite Jude Law in the Donmar’s West End production of Hamlet. She will repeat her performance of Ophelia when the production moves to Broadway.

During 2006 she appeared on BBC Radio 4 in Living with the Enemy.
