Candace Allen, Kenan Malik David Roediger will discuss Race and the US Presidential election on Tuesday 23 September 2008, 7.45pm at the Southbank Centre in London.
Barack Obama’s presidential nomination has put race on the US political agenda like never before. Candace Allen and David Roediger discuss the rise of Obama and racial politics both in recent history and today, looking at migration, the economy and recent emblematic events such as Hurricane Katrina. Candace Allen is a novelist, screenwriter and political campaigner, who has written widely on the challenges of the Obama candidacy. Kenan Malik’s controversial book Strange Fruit: Why Both Sides are Wrong in the Race Debate, opens up the debate about genetics and multicultural societies. David Roediger is the author of the newly published How Race Survived US History.

If Europe want to know how it can help , boycott all FOX products. In England that is SKY NEWS .Around the world it is called NEWS CORPS. They are anti-Islamic,anti-Immigrant, Anti-Black,anti-Woman.Sis, let them know.In Germany 300,000 people there hate FOX.Let's mobilize them.
Kid f., thanks for the news about the Fox boycott, and thanks for thre vote.
US a country of multiracial and multi national root. Now with the Barack Obama
as presidential nominee the race has come to the surface as political agenda.
America as strong democratic country has come a long way to subjugating the racial discrimination t its present stature. In politics there is no rule as such where for political gain any thing can be possible. But for presidential election the petty racial exploitation is highly condemnable
Dear Citizen:
Are you ready yet for the November 4th Elections? How about your friends, family, and neighbors?
More Americans are expected to vote this year than ever before in history, so don’t be left out! Be sure to ask everyone you know the following questions:
Are you registered to vote? If you moved recently, have you updated your voter registration?
Did you apply for an Absentee Ballot? Do you know your state may not require any reason?
Can you find your local Polling Place? Do you know it may have changed from last time?
The answers to these questions — and all your voting needs — can be found at http://www.StateDemocracy.org — the FREE 1-Stop citizen empowerment portal that Delivers Democracy to your Desktop! StateDemocracy is among the Internet’s first (since 2001) and most encompassing civic empowerment tools.
In order to boost voter participation this year, StateDemocracy.org is offering FREE widgets for all 50 states. You can simply download and embed these widgets into your own website so your visitors can register to vote, get an absentee ballot or find their local polling place.
Lobby Congress Via StateDemocracy
StateDemocracy.org also equips you to maintain an active dialog with your state and federal lawmakers once they are elected. And RIGHT NOW is an especially opportune time to contact your U.S. Senators and House Member, as Congress takes up major legislation on such issues as offshore oil drilling, another economic stimulus package and all federal appropriations bills over the next few weeks.
As you lobby your elected officials, remember that lawmakers view your constituent input as reflective of scores of other citizens who felt similarly, but didn’t have (or take) the time to share their opinions.

Over the past 5 months, you may have visited http://www.LobbyDelegates.com, along with 26,000 other visitors. This latest public interest portal by the StateDemocracy Foundation remained the only online tool enabling rank-and-file Democrats to lobby all 800+ Super Delegates on which candidate to back for the party’s Presidential nomination.

Thanks for sharing this voter information.
Race is everything in America. It would a major miracle if it stayed out of
this historical Presidential race.
Lot have been said and written on this topic. In this election also Obama has been targated on colour and race ground. Forget every thing today and just go to cast your vote to polling station. This is most important task for a voter who has not yet cast his vote.Because to make a difference each and every vote is reqyired. Thanks
Yes, everyone must vote!
Hi,
I just joined this great campaign to send a global message to Obama and thought you might be interested — here's the email about it below —

Dear friends,
After 8 long years of Bush â a fresh start!
Entrenched interests stand in the way, but Obama's victory brings a chance for the US to finally join with the world community to take on pressing challenges on climate change, human rights, and peace.
After years, even decades of distrust, let's seize this moment of unity, reconciliation and hope to send a message of warm congratulations and invitation to work together to the new President and the American people.
We've built a huge wall near the White House in Washington DC where the number of signatures on our message and personal messages from around the world will grow over the next several hours. We've also asked Obama to personally receive our petition from a group of Avaaz members. Let's get to 1 million signers and messages to Obama! This is a time for celebration of democracy, but already the sharks are circling â oil companies, war contractors, conservative lobbyists, and the powerful neo-con clique that brought us the war in Iraq are furiously lobbying to dim the prospects for change. Obama has promised national unity, and these interests will ask a high price for that unity.
Let's act quickly to make sure the people of the world are heard as Obama makes crucial choices in the coming days on how to live up to his campaign promises to secure a strong global treaty on climate change, ban torture and close Guantanamo prison, withdraw carefully from Iraq, and double aid to make global poverty history. Rarely has a US President been more likely to listen to us.
We'll make the point that on most of the pressing issues faced by Obama and the American people â from the financial crisis to climate change — we need to work together as one world to achieve change. Sign below and forward this message on:

With hope,
Ricken, Brett, Alice, Iain, Paula, Paul, Graziela, Pascal, Milena, Graziela and the whole Avaaz team.
